Farnsworth House Renovation
The Farnsworth House, a historic masterpiece crafted by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe between 1945 and 1951, stands as an icon of modernist architecture. Nestled in the serene countryside of Plano, Illinois, this one-bedroom weekend retreat, commissioned by Edith Farnsworth, is a testament to simplicity and elegance.
In the redesign of this architectural gem, the aim was to honor its modernist heritage while infusing it with contemporary allure. Dark oak elements with vibrant red accents were introduced into the interior, adding warmth and character to the space. Meanwhile, gentle cream hues were employed to soften the ambiance, creating a harmonious balance between boldness and subtlety.
The redesign sought to pay homage to Mies van der Rohe's vision while offering a fresh perspective that resonated with modern sensibilities. By marrying historical significance with contemporary design, the Farnsworth House remained not only a symbol of architectural excellence but also a timeless retreat that beckoned to be experienced anew.
